Autism Cymru launches Deis-Cyfle! - the new training programme and self-evaluation tool - on May 10, 2010

CARDIFF, Wales:  Autism Cymru, Wales's national charity for autism, will be officially launching the new project, Deis-Cyfle!, at the Senedd in Cardiff on Monday, May 10, 2010.

Deis-Cyfle means Opportunity in both Irish and Welsh. In collaboration with The Irish Society for Autism, Autism Cymru, Wales' national charity, is developing Deis-Cyfle as a three-day training programme and self-evaluation tool. It is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Deis-Cyfle! aims to increase employability and provide greater opportunities for school leavers with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by providing greater knowledge and understanding of autism. Training materials will be tailored for secondary school teachers, leisure and higher/further education providers and employers of people with autism. Ultimately, the project aims to enable individuals with an ASD to achieve their potential in the world of employment, leisure and education.

Working together, both charities will offer a wide range of complementary skills in training, providing in-depth knowledge and internationally renowned practice expertise to enhance the secondary school life of students with an ASD and enable them to achieve a
successful and happy educational and employment future.
